  1. Im trying to reinstall win98 on a system (i created a boot disk and burned cab files onto a cd-r)

Ive ran autoexec.bat and mscdex.exe, and ran setup.exe, but then it says my drive doesn't have a valid fat 32 system on it. Ive tried running every option possible in fdisk and nothing works to create or delete partitions.

Ive also tried formatting C: but it says format isnt supported on drive c:

I think you will have to boot from a floppy disk to use fdisk in that way. A CD boot may work, but a floppy is a lot easier, at least for partitioning and formating.

Have you set your BIOS to boot from a floppy? Then fdisk should work just fine. The W98 system files can be added after the repartition and reformat.

  3. The boot sequence is A, CDROM, C

Im thinkin also the HD may be corrupted, because when i tried a disk copy with drive image it said "error bad pointer"

Get vendor of HD and see if on the Mfg web site they offer 1) diags and 2) low-level format utility.

You could also try to use the DOS bootdisk and delete the active partition.

Create a new partition and format it.

Then you start trying to install again.
