Just a tip for any newbies... (probly old news though)

Just thought I'd post this (comments are welcome):
I use Winamp along with DSP plugins to improve the audio tracks from VHS captures. Specifically, I use the free Surround sound plugin or DFX Demo plugin to give more depth to normal stereo soundtracks.

It's quite fast and a lot easier than editing and downmixing to Dolby Surround. The output is not true Dolby Surround sound but a simulated 3D sound which IMO, sounds better than Dolby Surround sound but NOT as good as true 6 ch. Dolby Digital. It's best for Music Videos, Concerts and
some Movies.

Also surround is not the only plugin available with WinAmp
There are many many more sound plugins which can be used to improve sound quality or to add effects. Best of all you can preview in real-time and adjust while the audio is playing.

Procedure:
1. Load up the WAV or MP3 audiotrack into WinAMP
2. Select the DSP plugin you would like to use
3. Go to Preferences and select the disk writer plugin for the output and specify a location for the file
4. Play the file (you wil not hear the file playing instead it will be saved as a WAV file, with all effects being processed)

NOTE: it is a good idea to playback the audio several times to see how it sounds before selecting the disk writer plugin for output. Also remember to set the output plugin back to wavout or whatever it was earlier as soon as the process is finished.

Hope this information will be useful for somebody.

Cheers,
