  1. I work at a church and we had hoped to capture several 1-2 minute clips to string together as part of a service.

I have a Powerbook G4 with iMovie and Final Cut Express with a DVD player and VCR running to a Canopus ADVC-100 converter box.

Everything connected no problem but when the movies capture they flucuate between bright and clear to very dark. They will look perfect for several seconds then go dark like there is a shadow over everything. I can't capture a clean clip.

Is this some sort of copyright thing? I'm not a naughty boy. I just want to capture several short clips from different movies to string together for a service.

Can anyone out there help me?

I'm not up to snuff on MAC capturing, but if you did get the clips from commercial media (DVDs, VHS, etc.) then its a very good chance they have a copyright scheme called Macrovision. running the video through a time based corrector disables this.
    Hello.

    Hi clave,

If the movies you're capturing from are commercial VHS's, then your suspicion is highly likely to be correct - the copyright protection is called macrovision.

You need to look into how to get around it. There'll be plenty of info on this site / in the forums, but I'm afraid I can't help you - I just know what it is (or at least it sounds like it).

Hope that helps some. Good luck...

For instructions in defeating Macrovision using the ADVC-100, go to http://www.guygraphics.com/ and click on the "Reviews" link, then find the ADVC-100 review and scroll to the bottom.
