I have switched to capturing at 15MB in mpeg2. It saves encoding time and seems to be better quality than software encoding if I don't need to filter.
Right now I have to use TMGenc DVD author to author at high bit-rate and then use DVDShrink to shrink it down to a DVD compliant bit-rate.
If I feed it to your program it attempts to shrink the bit-rate but I get stuttering and out -of sync. Any chance of adding an option to turn out non-compliant high-bit rate vobs?

Since I am only the coder of the gui, and not the actual application, I don't know that I will be able to help much with that. I will point out a few things to try. (1)What does the log show? If an error is occurring during the multiplexing process, then the problem is not dvdauthor, but actually mplex (the utility used to multiplex the titles). I am assuming you are importing the m2v and mp2/ac3 file. If not let me know.
You may want to try another multiplexer (like ifoedit or something similar), and see if the multiplexed vobs can be imported into dvdauthorgui. Whatever multiplexor you use, be sure that it does insert blank NAV packets into the stream. Let me know what your log says, and I'll see if I can help.
