On our stand alone dvd recorders, Which mode do you have to choose for the most compatiblilty with stand alone dvd players? I think VIDEO mode is more compatible right?

Also, to rip the dvd you've just recorded onto your computer, do you have to finalize first no matter what mode you choose?

Lastly, say I the dvd was created in VR mode, and I rip the contents onto my computer. Are all the subsequent dvds I make from my computer burner going to be in VR mode too?

I guess I wanna know if there's a way to choose VR on your dvd stand alone recorder for all it's editing features, then rip onto computr and make a DVD in video mode?

Thanx in advance for any advice.

Video mode is the one that's compatible with most players (but doesn't allow editing on recorder). Always must be finalized before it can be played on another player or PC.

VR mode allows editing on recorder but is only compatible with other VR mode players. In some cases on some drives it may be possible to read a VR mode disc without it being finalized, but this is not guaranteed and usually requires some form of UDF software to be installed such as Nero InCD.

You can rip the contents of a VR disc and make a Video mode disc. Only certain programs are able to read VR discs on PC though. Cyberlink Power Producer is one program that works.

if you make a VR mode dvd, what you end up with is essentially a big .VRO file, which is the stuff you recorded. This file can be treated as a normal .mpg file by most applications (authoring software, or editors like womble) and you can make your own dvd-video out of that file. Think of it as any other .mpg you have on your hard disk.
Sorry, I had to go see about a girl
