No. You must get a new one, https://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDname=&cdrs=&cdrws=&dvdrs=&dvdrws=&dvdprs=&d...&Search=Search

wat do u mean no? i sed "can i choose were to put the blip from 1 layer to another?"
-
oops, i read it wrong :P
so if i put a movie (8 gigs) on a dvd, it cud put the blip in the middle of a scene? -
If u use the newest versions of Copy to DVD it will try to find an Optimum location for the layer break, preferably between scenes. If you are copying a DVD (of course a back up of your own collection), then i would rip it in ISO format and burn it in ISO format and the layer break should be untouched from what i've read.
I have 8 of the DL discs but i don't have anything yet worthy of using one on.

where can i get 8.5 gig discs in uk? i cant find any on amazon or on 121cdr.co.uk

He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect.
-
at the price they are selling them as of yet it's almost not worth it do you really have projects that big (you can get most movies for less than the blanks)
-
PCWorld, 5 for £30.
The quality of Sky Box Office isn't worth it. Just put it on a normal (4.3Gb) DVDR.Regards,

i don't know about you guys but i'm canadian that's 60$ so 12$ per.... i can go to the movies for less.
-
wats up with sky box office? i find it ok
-
there only 4 pound each on 121cdr, not that much really
-
i mean it's not worth taking up 8.5gb of space, especially since we've all used 4.3Gb disks until now with no visual loss

Yes, i've had success with that method also but to leave the layer break completely untouched so that there is no chance of CopytoDVD messing with the layer break, ripping and burning in ISO is foolproof and leaves nothing to chance. That was what i was trying to convey.

I think Balders' already answered this:

I don't see anywhere in the post that says DarthBooker is going to buy a new drive and try DL burning.
It just looks to me as if people are giving him DL advise for a single layer only burner....maybe it is just my warped brain playing tricks on me today... -
Yeah, looks that way.
Still, it's research when considering buying a DL burner.Regards,

I understand that.
I'm just making sure that he does not get the wrong idea and knows that he cannot use DL media on his drive as it is right now....that's all.
I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything...I just found myself confused by the conversation.
