  4. How fast is your LAN connection 10Mb/s, 10-100?

How fast is the machine your serving from?

How fast is the machine your recieving on?

Does the file play OK when played locally on both machines?

How much bandwidth does the file your playing require?

  6. You'll have to try it on the client machine.

P3, 800Mhz, + 256Meg Ram should be plenty to smoothly play the average media file locally (assuming the file in question isn't too demanding).

What kind of specs does the media file have?

  8. Are you using XP? Hit alt-cntl-del and click on the network tab. See if you are maxing out your network card (100%). I watch DVD bit rate files served from an 800 PIII on a 350 PII and an Athlon 3200 at the same time with no problems using a 100 Mb network card.

  11. but thing is half my network is on a wireless lan connection....u see my host connects to a wireless access point via a wireless lan card...then i have 2 otha clients, one connections to the access pt thru wireless connection and the otha client, the one im tryin to play movies on, connections via a ethernet cable to the access point...so i dunno...would a firewall be slowing down the connection?

  12. ok im guessing your using wireless internet? that will bog you down, the box says 54mb but LOL i dont even get 10 and the signal strength is good, 10mbs is plenty. you just need to run a rj-5 cable. BTW wuts up with "da" and "bcoz"

  13. ?? im not using wireless internet. im using cable and in any case im not wanting to play a file over the internet, im tryin to play a file over my network on my hosts computer hard drive...does anyone kno any settings for videolan or sumthing to make the playback less laggy/choppy...btw "da" and "bcoz" are just shortcuts...cant help it sometimes because its easier and faster to write...although i can write in normal sentences it just takes to long for me to think about what im writing (e.g this post is pretty much english!^^)

  14. not using a router....im using an access point which is like an extension of the wireless network and it pretty much acts like a wireless router. i have 1 client connected to the "router" wirelessly and the other connected through a network cable
