  1. Is ffmpegX optimized for the G5?
If not: when it will be?
If yes: what codec/settings are best optimized for the G5?

  2. I'm asking this because i've read that when running ffmpegX on a dual 2GHz G5 the app never uses all the CPUs time available. Usually a 30-33% of CPUs time remain idle. Is this true?

PS: i hope to switch to a dual G5 system asap

  3. Some engines and codecs are optimized for dual processor and Altivec, like mencoder mpeg-4, others not, like XviD.

  5. the latest xvid cvs versions support altivec.

i have built my own xvidcore with the cvs sources form 2004-10-17. this library is about 30-40% faster on a G5 (maybe on G4, too) than xvid 1.0.

i have tested it with the xvid qt component. it seams to work well. i have seen no bugs.

major, if you are interested i can email you my sources.
