  1. I bought a stick of Corsair XMS low latency 512mb last year for $119...why is it that the exact stick of ram now runs $145? You would think that the cost of advancing technology would drive down the price of my puny pc2700...

  6. Maybe it was, and I'm dreaming stuff up again.

I do remember the price of memory in the UK almost doubling at one point.

I also remember being able to pick up 512MB of RAM last May for £45, and now it is £65...

I remember a friend of mine got 4 megs of ram for his 386 and he was just dancing around in pure joy. Things were tight back then, I think the ram cost was higher then the drives. (and they were not cheap either)

  8. I remember when we got our Performa 6400. It came with 16MB of RAM in it, so we put in another 32MB. That made an incredible 48MB of RAM - it was a real luxury. We never ran out.

Look at us now. 1,024MB of RAM in my machine, and it still isn't enough...

I still remember the big (plant explosion?) back in 92/93 when I paid $495 for 4 sticks of 4x9 30-pin simms. Be grateful for what you have. :P

I know what you mean Ped96TA, the same 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 that I bought 9 months ago for $199 is now selling for $345.

I remember getting a Pentium 133 /MB for my birthday (pretty damn geeky ) but no memory. I went to Best Buy and bought 16MB of fast-page RAM.

The cost: $750. The going rate for a long time there had been $45/Megabyte

The plant fire that you are all talking about was because of an earthquake that hit Taiwan in 92. It was one of the worst to ever hit the country. The day it hit is now a memorial day in Taiwan. As for prices now, one of the main Memory Chip producers has cut production to drive up the cost of ram, since prices were dropping too much and they wern't making enough money. Even as it stands right now, prices aren't too crazy IMO.

Then I would hold off on buying it just on principles. I wouldn't want to reward that sort of unethical business practice :P
