I bought a stick of Corsair XMS low latency 512mb last year for $119...why is it that the exact stick of ram now runs $145? You would think that the cost of advancing technology would drive down the price of my puny pc2700...![]()

Remember years ago when a memory factory burned down? RAM prices went into orbit.

Maybe it was, and I'm dreaming stuff up again.
I do remember the price of memory in the UK almost doubling at one point.
I also remember being able to pick up 512MB of RAM last May for £45, and now it is £65... -

Look at us now. 1,024MB of RAM in my machine, and it still isn't enough... -
I still remember the big (plant explosion?) back in 92/93 when I paid $495 for 4 sticks of 4x9 30-pin simms. Be grateful for what you have. :P

Reading this makes me glad that I bought my 512meg 1066mhz Rambus memory LAST year!!!
I don't even WANT to look up how much it would be now..... -
I remember RAMBUS. :P
BTW you're looking at $185 on Pricewatch.Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
The plant fire that you are all talking about was because of an earthquake that hit Taiwan in 92. It was one of the worst to ever hit the country. The day it hit is now a memorial day in Taiwan. As for prices now, one of the main Memory Chip producers has cut production to drive up the cost of ram, since prices were dropping too much and they wern't making enough money. Even as it stands right now, prices aren't too crazy IMO.
