    Hi,

I need a standalone recorder that will record 2 channels at 16bit 44khz, uncompressed. (i.e. CD Quality Audio).

I know there are CD Recorders around but I thought I may aswell get a DVD recorder just in case I wanted to record video someday.

    Couple of questions:
    - will a DVD recorder support this?
    - if so, is it possible to reocrd to CDR and CDRW or would I have to record to DVDR?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

I wrote an earlier post in this forum about converting LPs to digital audio using my Pioneer DVR-510H-S. It records PCM audio which is 2 channel, 16-bit, 48 kHz used for DVD playback. You'd need to use decent sound conversion software to resample at 44.1 kHz unless you want your CDs to sound a little off.

Also, I doubt if any DVD recorder will record to CD-R or CD-RW. You would need to use your computer to transfer the files from the DVD to a CD. Of course, you also have to use the computer to resample the audio anyway.

You could always just buy a RCA-->phono lead and use Audacity or similar to record the WAV to your HD from your TV via your sound card. Then use a CD-Burner.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. I don't know if all recorders do it, but some will record an hour of LPCM audio. You might have to a video signal to record it though. I don't know of any that do CDs, but they may exist. I've done it from DMX on my satellite, the audio is as good as it is straight from the satellite.

I know that the JVC will allow uncompressed 16bit 48kHz PCM to be recorded if you set the recording quality to XP (top) and in the settings you choose PCM audio instead of Dolby when you record at XP quality. A video stream will also be recorded, which subsequently can be tossed away via computer.
Sorry, I had to go see about a girl
