DVD-R is cheaper and more compatible (with the right brands). I have personally found that Ritek/RiData DVD-R have the best compatibility at a reasonable price.

There werent any personal advantages to +R until the recordable dual layer format was released. There is no dual layer -R yet.

in mac-land, DVD-R is most compatible for the burners that shipped with the G4s.

Also, Apple initially limited iDVD and DVDSP to burning to DVD-R only. I think newer versions of DVDSP may allow DVD+R burning - if the burner supports it (and if Apple hasn't disabled that funtionality with the firmware they supply on their "Superdrives") - but the Apple iDVD Help site for iDVD 4.0.1 states: "When you are finished with your iDVD project, you can burn it to a blank DVD-R disc."

So, the only Mac-specific issue with DVD-R vs DVD+R is Apple's initial "DVD-R only" stance, which is slowly changing to allow DVD+R.

basically as long as you are running 10.3.x and have a dual format support drive use whatever you like.

personally i like the Ritek G05 -R myself, but i can also burn +R and Dual Layer +R if I want
