Toshiba M1202 - will this play any burned DVDs?

I bought one of these in '98. It claims to play DVD-R, DVD-ROM, and CD-R/RW. It plays -ROM that are bought, but it won't play DVD-Rs (I only had one to try) and it won't play CD-RW at all. Is it likely that if I booktype a +R disk to -ROM this player will run one?

What steps are you going through to burn. What software are you using to burn? I had this same problem with my Toshiba. I have a SD-1700 which I had issues getting burnt DVD's to work. Let me know if you want my steps of how I got DVD-Rs to work.

Well the DVD-R is actually one my dad burnt. I've no idea how he did it or the media, etc. It does, however, work on my standalone player and ni my nec 3500. Dito for a +R he made. Interestingly though this toshbia won't even play RWs. I have some that I've made, on two separate burners, and one my dad made on his burner. They all work in my lite-on burner, my nec 3500, as well as my work computer, and my stand alone dvd player, but it seems that this toshiba refuses to play anything that isn't either a pressed DVD-ROM/CD-ROM, or a CD-R. Remember, it was bought in 1998, so the thing is OOOOLD!

Well I messed with Nero for over a month to get my Toshiba to read my burnt DVD-Rs. The only set back on mine is that it only reads DVD-r. To burn DVDs I find using Nero to be the best way. What I found was that most users here use the DVD-Video mode. But for some reason my Toshiba will not read if burnt in this mode. The only mode that seems to work for my Toshiba and for all other DVD stand alones is to use the "DVD-Rom (UDF)" ...After clicking on UDF, make sure that No Multisession radio button is checked. Then click on the UDF tab at the top. On this page make sure "Physical Partition" is highlighted, and that file system version reads UDF 1.02. All the other options can be left alone. Just make sure that those two things I stated above are correct, then click new, then burn away. This is how I got DVD-Rs to work on my Toshiba. This also seems to work for every stand alone I throw at it. So it does work! If you have any other questions let me know.
