  1. Hello once again,

First off, I would like to thank who has helped answer my questions in the last few days. I have had a lot of computer problems at home and only have access to the net at work. So I have been negligent in my thanks. Sooo .. thanks

One more question though. Im pretty sure I cant do this but I will ask anyway.

I have a 120gig Western Digital drive with only one partition on it. On that partition, I have about 40 gig worth of stuff that I can not lose. In lieu of purchasing another drive at this particular time, is there anyway to install XP on this partition, without formatting and without losing any of the information on the drive? I had my primary drive in that computer fail on me and I dont have the money to purchase another right now.

As I said, I suspect no, but I am no expert so I thought I would ask.

    Thanks in advance this time

    LG

    Yes.

You can install xp without formatting the partition thus keeping your data.

Ok. Is there any special way of doing it or anything I should know? Or do I just plop in the cd and install as per normal and not worry about anything?

    No problem.

Just make sure you select the option to keep data.

  7. Well, it worked I installed xp last night and didnt lose a thing.

Now, I have two more questions. Unrelated to each other.

    1) I bought a copy of Diablo 2 last night from Zellers (hey, it was $15.99). I dont live at home and would like to make a copy of it for my little brother. Is it possible to copy all 4 of the cd's on to 1 dvd and still have it function? Or does it have to be on cd's?

    and

    2) Going back to my original problem. I was given a small 10gig hard drive from my dad. I have one drive setup with XP already on it. Without formatting, what would be the proceedure to add XP to the 2nd drive for a dual boot system? Is it possible?

Thanks again in advance boys and girls. I appreciate it.

    LG

  11. Dual boot XP with XP?

Not sure, but I don't think it's a problem to install the OS multiple time on the same machine...never tried it though, so I don't know how the activation would work.

Why dual boot the same OS when you can setup hardware and software profiles and boot that way?

There was a post/guide some time back about using a dual boot xp & xp setup to faciltate quick, free backup and restore.

Method/reasoning took a lot of drubbing form other users but it made good sense to me, althrough I have not done it yet

Basicly I think he used 3 partitions
    partition 1 = 0s- xp
partition 2 = 0s- xp cloned from partition 1 after setup, used as recovery/backup

partion 3 = all program installations & data

    *******************

If you have a multiple cd set that you need/want to achieve/backup under fair use policy, I am sure someone can help with method. OBSERVE THE RULES/LAW, just ask the correct way

Example: market had a super sale on standing rib roast and I asked the butcher to cut them into 1" steaks which he said he could not do because of store/legal policy (steaks were twice the price), then he said that he could cut them into smaller 1" roasts, which were what were on sale.

It is all in how you ask. What was that line from Clute ??
