I am giving up. I have looked in every forum and can't find an answer to my question. I am capturing from a Sony Digital camcorder with Ulead video capture. I make an avi that sounds fine when I play it back and I have cranked up the volume. When I go to turn it into an MPEG1 in TMPEG using the template I get cracling audio. It sounds like overload but I am at a loss as to what to do. Any suggestions????????

get the too lame encoder and use that. you load it into tmpges external audio encoder in the options somewhere. and try again.
dont re-encode the whole movie just the audio and demux the other one you made and remux with the newley converted audio.
