i read something about during burning that the drive will change speed halfway thru the process. And you can see different color when you look at the data on the disc.

I just experienced this for the first time today with this new 8x media i bought. Coincedentically, my video freezes at chapter 5 (of 10). WHen it freezes i am unable to search/rewind/ff or go to menu.

How do i prevent this? Only option i see is to burn it at 4x.

  2. speeds do change when burning, they start from slow and slowly increase, but i've never heard of the colour changing. not sure if this will help but anyway, concentrate on the burning, that is don't do other stuff on the computer, and make sure u regurarly defrag your computer.

its not exactly changing color. after the burning is done, you look at the data. You can clearly see exactly the spot where change of speed takes place. It sorta looks like if it was written twice.

Ive used 8x before and has not happen to me with other media. Should i suspect it be the media? Ive used the 4x versions of these dvd+rs and they are great media.

  4. I have a similar issue, but it's all my fault. I have the 16x dl Liteon, and I updated the firmware using omni-patcher, which allows you to choose "not-quite-normal" burning speeds for media that you have. Well, I happen to have a caker of 4x princo disks(garbage, really), so wanting to see if the patcher worked, I changed the burn speed to 8x. Sure enough, Nero will start to burn them at 8x, but for some reason, it always drops down to 4x about halfway through. Not exactly sure why it does this, so now I just burn them at 6x, I get a consistent burn, and I don't have to worry about coasters(I got two with the old method). I know this doesnt help you out at all, just relaying my experiences with the 2-speed burning.
    Sometimes, ya just gotta.....umm, what's the word........FART???
