I am struggling to get my Device Manager to reckognize my Canopus ADVC-100.
The 1394 card installed for the purpose of using the ADVC is acknowledged under Device Manager but nothing I have tried produces an "Imaging Device" entry.

Canopus have sent me several files/drivers to install without success, I have used different slots for the card (a VIA chipset card), different cables, different ports on the card, booted up with the ADVC attached/not attached, all without result.

I am using a Jetway V266B mother board, AMD Athlon 1700, 256 mb RAM (soon to be upgraded as I realise this is low for effective capturing/editing use) XP Pro with SP1. DirectX 9.0c is installed.

Any help with this problem would be very much appreciated as many users of this device must have a similar set up.
I did try a NEC chipset 1394 card but that wouldn't even permit the PC to turn on. It was precumably defective and has been returned for replacement.
The next thing to be replaced is me if I don't get some results soon!
This is the result the result of a "dxdiag" run on my system, with some of the standard stuff (mouse, keyboard, soundcard, etc.) edited out to reduce the size.

Try upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 2. Here's a webpage from Microsoft that describes the problem:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329256

If that doesn't work, uninstall the both Firewire card and the Canopus unit using the Windows Device Manager. Reboot and Windows should find both devices and will reinstall them.

Thanks for the thoughts Jabloomf1230 but the particular file suggested by MS from SP2 has already been installed having been sent by Canopus Tech Support.

I've Uninstalled, reinstalled and the Device manager reports "New Hardware found, AVC device found, etc" but it still doesn't appear in the List of Devices and software to capture video doesn't see it as installed.

Any more thoughts or experience from ADVC-100 users?

With your PC off, and the connection to your PC disconnected, connect your camera or VCR or whatever to your ADVC and turn your ADVC on. Does it correctly select the Digital or Analog input (one of the blue lights should stay lit after about 5 seconds) ?

The reason I ask is that my ADVC-100 had a dodgy power supply and would get picked up by the device manager. The telltale sign was that when I turned it on, both lights as well as the status light would stay lit. After getting it fixed, I get all 3 lights lit up for about 5 seconds, then the appropriate blue light remains lit.

    Just a thought.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Thanks for taking the time to post but, yes, the signal detection works correctly.

And I thought this was the easy way to transfer Analogue video!

I am very suspiscious that the problem lies somewhere in XPPro/SP1 & DirectX 9, iven the amount of problems reported on the Canopus Forum after users have upgraded (?) to SP1 and DirectX9

    Any further thoughts....................

I seem to recall that there were known issues with VIA motherboard chipsets, Texas Instruments firewire cards ...

Maybe try upgrading to XP SP2 ?
    If in doubt, Google it.
