  1. I recently burned 2 dvds which do not play on the standalone player. someone asked if they had errors on them because computer dvd players have better error correction. is there any tool that can scan dvds to analyze how many errors it contains (if any) and maybe some other valueable information that might help debug why this isn't playing? thanks!

Scan with DVD Info Pro. A few details would be nice What software did you use? Which burner? Which discs? Which standalone?

sorry abou that. didn't bother posting because another thread suggested that might be the problem..figured i'd get to the point. at any rate here is the info:

software used: dvd decrypter, dvd shrink, tmpgenc author
    burner: khypermedia (rebadged benq) 8x
discs: piodata (supposively they are Ritek)
    standalone: sony SLV-D300P

Well I usually leave verify on when I'm burning either my only copy of something, or something for other people. That right there rules out totally bad burns... but not "low quality" burns.

If you had a liteon, the tool to use would be KProbe, although that has been less than reliable on certain liteons. CDSpeed tests, so does DVDInfoPro, IIRC.

  6. If you have a Benq I think you can run the PI jitter test in DVDInfoPro too.

  8. Open DVDInfoPro, look at the top where it says PI PIF, I think your drive is supported.

I searched the whole program (version 2.64), no sign of PI PIF unfortunatley. I guess my drive is not supported ;/

  10. Get version 3.20 and it's there, it's freeware.
