  1. Hi all.
This is a audio and video out-of-sync problem I frequently get:

First I record a one hour TV show on my PCTV Deluxe in
    7.5MBit DVD quality.

Then I use MPEG-VCR to cut out commercials and other, so far the
    MPEG seems in perfect lipsync.

Then I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to create the DVD and burn it.

when playing the DVD on my Pioneer DV-444 stand-alone from
start to finish it will play in perfect lipsync, BUT if I jump forward
a few chapters it will eventually go out-of-sync.

One thing I've noticed about the authored DVD is that the DVD
authoring software has cut the 2.2 Gb MPEG file into two .vob
    files.
If I play these .vob files in PowerDVD the first file is always OK
but the second one is most oftenly out-of-sync some 0.4 secs ?

    Any ideas anyone ?

A dvd vob is max 1 GB, https://www.videohelp.com/dvd#struct , so it should be cut.

Have you tried any other authoring tool?

Know any other simple DVD Authoring software which supports
    Chapters and menu ?

There are lots, many with downloadable free trial versions. Take a look at the tools section of this site.

  5. MediaChance DVDLab is good for authoring. Menus and chapters both supported and included... And as bugster said, many others as well. DVDLab seems to be fairly popular, and the Pro version adds many other features and supports AC3...

Are you sure you don't get any dropped frames?

Any DVD authoring program will de-mux your mpeg and re-mux it into DVD format (which is slightly different). If you have dropped frames, this de-mux/remux will lose the timestamps that keeps it in sync in the original mpeg. Any authoring SW will then result in the smae issue. Give one a try and hope the problem goes away, but I doubt it.

I like DVD-Lab too, but have not tried the Pro version.

  7. How do I know if I get dropped frames, any MPEG2 analyzing
    software out there ?
I used the MPEG-VCR "MPEG video GOP Fixer" to scan the file
    but it reported zero errors.

I used the free software "DVDStyler" to author and I got
    approximately the same result.

Your capture software should be able to tell you if/how many dropped frames there were.

I use Pinnacle Vision, to my knowledge it didn't report any
    dropped frames...

  10. Try ProjectX. This software at least tries to correct sync problems during demux...

Compiled Versions of ProjectX can be found here:
    http://www.oozoon.de/

Then use the elementary streams for authoring with TDA (or any other authoring prog).

Ok, seems I have dropped frames after all...
I used the PVAStrumento to analyze the file and it
    reported a few dropped frames:
    ALERT> 1 video frames missing at 01:31:48.061.
    ALERT> Dropping GOP for sync.
    Re-syncing.
    Closing starting GOP.
    Aiming for sync at 01:31:48.701
    Cutting audio.
Audio stream 1 now starts at 01:31:49.136
Video stream 1 now starts at 01:31:48.701

Now I tried to use "make ps" button to correct the errors
and the result mpg file acts quite weird, in PowerDVD it plays
well but I can't set the position where I want to play it from
on the other hand in Media Player I can set the position
where I want to but with a considerable delay.

Then I cut out the commercials from the mpg file using
MPEG-VCR, unfortunately the result files become
    completely out of sync ???

Argh... I running out of ideas here guys...

  12. Use either PVAStrumento or ProjectX (I would prefer ProjectX) to demux your video. Then load the elementary streams in Mpeg2Schnitt or Cuttermaran and cut out the commercials. Remux the cut elementary streams with mplex, Muxxi, bbmpeg...

    Yepp...
I demuxed in MPEG-VCR and then authored in TMPGEnc Authoring
elementary stream and audio stream separated (This is not to
my knowledge possible in the Freeware DVDStyler).

With this combination I get absolutely perfect sync.

Conclusion: Demux in TMPGEnc Author is useless

Anyway, I'd like to send out my deepest gratitudes to you all who
participated in my agony and sympathized....

No, but with dvdauthorgui or GUI for dvdauthor...
