    Hi there,

My first post. Love this site, it has helped me heaps already. My question: work has given me a pretty cool computer to do video editing, 500Gb harddrive, DVD burner, and a heap of programs included. Mostly I use Premiere Pro and ULEAD DVD Workshop SE. I convert to MPEG using the Adobe media encoder. But I have no idea what any of these are:

    -MPEG Craft
    -EIDUS LE
    -Xplode EDIUS
    -DV Storm

What do they do? Yup, I'm a computer pleb.

they dont make 500gig hard drives ...

    anyway --

MPEG Craft - canopus mpeg editor
-EIDUS LE - light version of canopus NLE video editor
-Xplode EDIUS - canopus app that is useless to you if you don't know what the other apps are .
-DV Storm - canopus video capture/print card/acceleration card , somewhat expensive , you need the tape deck that goes with it to make it useful , like a beta sp for example ..

a lot depends on the model and version of these apps and card - as some were buggy as hell ... specially with premiere ..

you MUST register with canopus and get the updates ... you should also get a pro tape deck really and the rest of the system that would have come with this .... - or sell the dv storm - figure on 15 grand min. to get it up and running ... maybe 10 if you go cheapo ..

actually - it sounds like a hot computer :

if you opened each of those programs and click on the help file - it would have given a good clue also ..

except for the card of course ..

  5. Neonx, welcome to the forum. I am surprised that noone else asked, but what type of work are you doing where you end up with a snazzy computer like that?

Dont mean to sound like a wiener (yes, I am a little jealous here), but it doesnt sound like you are familair with video editing and stuff, and you get a computer with all of that nifty stuff on it. I'd be interested in finding out what line of work you are in to get a computer like that.

This is a hobby for me, I have no use for it in my line of work. I am an IT Business Analyst/Project Manager for a mortgage company. I have used my hobby in the past for recording training sessions and certain meetings, but I never got a computer with video editing software on it.

yea kinda weird to say the least to get a 5-6 grand system from your work and have no idea what it all is or what to do with it .. the canopus NLE is easier to use than premiere anyway ... but the combination fo premiere pro and ulead le is really odd also ..

I make training videos for people working in Home and Community Care (things like meals on wheels for oldies). I do have a video editing background, I have produced stuff that has been aired on Tasmanian TV(Australia). It's just, my boss went crazy and stuck everything on my computer for me. Said it would be better for me to have everything now rather than find out I needed something later.

I must say, I do like my computer. (Wish it was a Mac though.) I had to teach myself how to do everything, from turning the damn thing on, to authoring and burning DVDs.

Yep, government job. Funding not a problem.

Don't be too jealous, the work is mind-numbingly boring stuff...

It can't possibly be any more boring than this thread is, can it?

Same here. A blank check ..."you want a quad Xeon workstation to do your spreadsheets ...with raided 15K U320 SCSI drives and dual 20" digital LCD monitors .....no problem. Just mark how many you want under 'quantity' and we'll put a rush on it for you. Is tomorrow afternoon delivery soon enough?". It's embarassing.

If I didn't have a conscience I could go nuts with the spending, and many do. But there's such a thing as extravagant. Not pointing fingers, but it's a lot of temptation. My machine: a single Xeon WS ...I resisted temptation My job isn't boring though. But this thread seems to be to some of us coughcoughcoughsacajaweedacoughcoughcough
