When a person backs up a DVD with AC3 5.1 surround sound onto the computer, do they have an option to keep that 5.1 surround sound? I have tried this and I got a 5.1 AC3 file. If I burn that onto a DVD-R, is it possible for the background sound (not the voices for the Center speaker) to lower itself for some reason? I think that's the case with this one I'm doing for some reason. Why is that?

Unless you have processed the AC3 file seperately, it should not be affected. Most copy software works by manipulating the video bitrate, and leave the audio alone. You have the option of dropping certain tracks, but not transcoding it.

What software/copy method did you use ?
What are you playing back on ?
Is it the same on other playback devices ?

I forgot what I used since it was a long time ago. I brought this up again because I was wondering. Are you into anime (hence your name Gunslinger from Gunslinger Girl?). If you are, I might have more specific question0s on this issue for you in PM.

I only have 2 DVD players, one is connected to the Dolby Digital while the other isn't. The background sound is low while the other sounds are all normal on the DVD player with DD. I haven't tested it on the other player because why bother? I don't have a computer 5.1 setup but I listened to it on the computer anyway and the background sound is definitely louder than the voices. So why is it that it lowers itself? It's just that one, I have had no problems with other AC3 5.1.

Wait! Would Dynamic Range Control make the music softer? I already tried to set my AMP to the three options for DRC but they all sound the same.
