Is what I'm asking breaking the rules. I own the file just Like I own the DVD I just made a backup of. I paid for both. Doesn't this fall within fair use and all that crap.

gonna have to chime in here..

I paid for and downloaded a whole album of songs from *a certain online retailer (***mart) which shall remain nameless*...

I can burn the music files, and then rip them back to MP3s...which I feel is no different than if I bought the actual CD...

    maybe I'm wrong...but I don't think so...

If I have a CD, and I want to rip it to MP3s (cause my player supports MP3s) I can do that, right?

Ok then if there is not a way to re-encode these songs let me ask this. If I burn them to a CD then rip them back as an mp3 is there a quality loss there. And if you dont like mp3 then if I were to rip them to whatever be the greatest audio scheme there is, will there be quality loss? See I use songs in my home videos (for private viewing not for profit) and my editor doesn't support apples format.

You can load the files to Gold Wave, then save them what format you want them in.
