Can anyone tell me how to cut/delete part of an avi file? I used dvd decrypter to tranfer to my hard drive then Dr DivX to convert to avi. Apparently there is something wrong with the DVD , because DVD Shrink which I normally use gave an error message. When I use it, I am able to choose exactly which parts of the movie I want, but I couldn't with dvd decrypter. To make a long story short, the avi file is not matching up with the subtitles, no matter what I do, so I'd like to cut out the first part (menu) of the file. What should I do??

You're creating an unnessecary step..This is why DVDShrink won't work either..
You can shrink a DVD movie, but not the way u intended..
Creating an .AVI with DivX compression is great for diskspace, and overall filesize, but is a different animal than the native MPEG stream which lies in a .VOB....

    What's your overall purpose??

Thanks for your prompt response. It's a Bollywood (Indian)movie which I made smaller to share on torrents. I've done it before, and it's worked, but this particular dvd apparently has a defect, because dvd shrink won't do the trick. I usually just pull out the movie itself with shrink. I don't need the menu, which I got with decrypter.
