Im wondering if there is any setback of renaming .DAT files to .mpg. Is there a disadvantage of doing that then using a software to convert?

also im wondering if that might be the reason why TDA takes about 1 full minute to load up a 400mb video. Ordinarily it would load instantly. In this case after you select file from dialog box, program will freeze.

Then in window task manager, the process will run up to 400,000. The program will also read 'not responding'. When process goes down back to few thousand then the video will load to the edit screen.

I know for a fact it is not ram problem. it is either the file or program, ive heard some others with this problem but no one knows the answer.

  2. There can be issues processing the file if you just rename it. the .DAT is a wrapper for the MPEG1 file, it contains more info than just the the audio/video information.

The best thing to do, and luckily, it's a free solution, is to download ISOBUSTER and use it to extract the audio and video.

Give that methos a try and see if TDA works better with it.

See the beginning of this guide on how to extract with ISOBUSTER.

  4. By default the file name will be whatever it was on the CD, AVSEQ01.DAT, etc.

However, after it is ripped, it will be MPEG1 Video and Mpeg1 later 2 audio. They will not be demuxed, it will still be one file. If you want them demuxed either get TMPGENc and use the MPEG tools to demux or some authoring programs demux.

i remember using ISO buster before. Something weird happend. I turned them into mpgs, then for some reason, just having ISOBuster installed, messes with the way TDA works.

After i uninstalled ISObuster, TDA worked fine. I cant remembe specific error but that was the problem. That was before i started renaming them.

I guess ISObuster wont work in my case. These .DAT files are on a hard drive, not on disc.

in isobuster, there is only choices for drives.

Try VCDGear... DAT -> MPG in the conversion drop down box. And maybe tick off the fix MPEG errors box too.

i tried vcdgear but the output mpg file still takes forever to load into TDA.

I had to resort to TDA1.5. because that problem does not occur in 1.5. Just in 1.6
