Well, my ink was running low and I had to order some more. I've seen other brands mentioned here, but there are so many choices I decided to stick with JLW. The total price for 6x100mL was $54.50 with 3 day shipping from Hong Kong. Is that too much? Has anyone tried any cheaper ink with good results? Anyone want to go in on a bulk purchase to save us all some money?

  2. hey guys, i ordered this JLWsales system as well. works great...but stinks like hell. the plastic tubes reak of some kind of chemical and the ink smells like a concentrated form of windex. i have this system set up in a small room and get a headache after sitting in the room for 10 minutes.

anyone else having this problem? only have had it set up a couple days, hoping the smell will wear off...

I was worried about the same thing. When I first opend the plastic bag it came in, I thought for sure that it must have leaked during shipment. The smell was very strong. I could still smell it after I installed it, but either I got used to it or it doesn't smell so bad anymore. Heck, maybe all the volatile stuff evaported out of the ink.... Still smells the same when printing with the lid open, but it's not noticable with the lid down. Do the Epson inks smell the same when printing?

I never experienced this. I do smoke so maybe I am not as keen as a non-smoker, who knows.

  6. Tony, I hope you enjoy your new ink... but FYI for the rest of you guys out there... Sams Club (at least in this part of the world) has a ink refill kit with 4oz of each color (CMYpCpM) and 8oz of black for $20. The box claims 585ml of ink? Its Straitec I think- I'm not in front of the box right this second.

Thats the refill I'll be using when I'm ready

I ordered mine on a Wednesday and got it the following Monday. I have also printed 50 or so DVD's so far and love it. Also have printed a few 8x10, 4x6 photos and they look really good. The ink does have a strong odor. But it prints well and doesn't smell once the ink has dried.

  11. nevermind, I just got it in the mail. For future reference, it's tracked on USPS.com

  13. just bought jlw's kit because of positive feedback from this forum. installation went off without a hitch and i am joyously printing now so glad i no longer have to dread refilling and guess when i will run out. fabulous!!! thanks to everyone helpful in this forum and thanks to jlwsales. btw, i originally used the sams club ink (stratitec) and it worked great until one of my refills leaked (my fault) i have no doubt the remainder of the ink i have from that kit will work great when it comes time to refill my cis. hope this helps you all

  15. allow me to ask a question...

I heard for these systems to work correctly you have to print out pictures or a couple cd/dvd's each day. I heard if you print alot of material say, once per week, these systems tend to clog and are not worth it. Can someoen who owns the system please clarify these assumptions? thanks!!!

I have been using my system about once every three days. I normally print around 20-30 DVD-r's each time. I have had no issues, no clogs. I do run the nozzle cleaning utility once every 50 prints.

  17. Curious guys, how often do you have to replace the print cartridges? I have an HP printer for a few years and was informed the the print head was on the cartridge itself and could only be refilled about 8 times before it went bad. My other printer is a canon and I'm informed that the print head is on the printer itself and not the print cartridge.

So question is: on the R200 is the print head on the cartridge or printer. If on cartridge, how many times/how long can you use it for? Thanks
    Quote Quote
  18. In my HP #57 cartridges they are only refillable about 3-4 times max before the print quality is complete crap, and you have to replace the cartridge. So if you're getting 8, thats pretty good.

  19. FYI: I bought my R200 from Staples today. There's a lot of $20 or $15 off $100 purchase coupons flying around (see fatwallet.com under the coupons tab). Bought it for $89 after taxes + Staples is giving you a $20 staples gift card + visa is giving your $20 holiday shopping card. Basically, you get $40 to spend. If you factor all the goodies in, the printer actually costs $50. I'm looking forward in buying this refill system thing.

That is why I'm asking if the printer head is on the cartridge or printer. It appears that its on the printer and therefore you can use the cartridges indefinitely or until the printer head clogs, but I'm not 100% certain.

  20. True. The print head is part of the printer, not the cartridges (beit epson, oem or cis).

The print head comes with a lifetime warranty from epson (as I understand it), IF and only IF you use authentic EPSON cartridges and ink. So basically you should keep a set of epson inks around in case you ever need to warranty the printer.

In Australia, the law states that you cannot void the warrenty by using non genuine ink.

What does that mean? The warranty is good in Australia no matter which ink a consumer uses (epson or oem) or does it mean its against the law for a consumer to use oem (non-epson) inks in a printer the consumer paid for? Because if I'm reading and understanding that correctly to mean the consumer in australia, who paid for the printer with their own money, can not buy cheaper oem aftermarket inks to use in that printer because its "against the law" .... <insert foul language here>

  24. Anyone else having trouble or worried about the ink tubes rubbing up against the left side of the printer top when the printer is printing with these CIS tubes in place? My tubes are rubbing pretty bad- like the ones in the madvideos video. Doesn't look good.

I don't have mine installed in that way. I first installed it in a similar way and didn't like it because of the rubbing and bumping. I went with the side mount install which I think is much better. You can see pics on the first page of this topic.

Oh yeah! That works MUCH better. I saw that when I first started reading this thread- and forgot by the time I got my CIS and installed it

PLUS: I didn't actually buy the JLWsales cis, I bought one very similar to it, that (for me) was cheaper but did require me to remove the cartridge clamp. Turns out it was no big deal, just 2 screws and boom- its gone.

I've printed TONS of stuff, looks great, works great, now no rubbing at all (at least it seems), and all is well!

  28. my tubes got caught under the cartriges and now my printer doesn't work.
anyone know what i can do?

My epson status monitor just says PRINTER IS NOT READY TO PRINT Check all connections and make sure all devices are on. To cancel printing, click the Cancel button.

It also is not reading any of the ink cartriges, I've tried to put the original epson ink back in but nothing.

  29. Everything I've read about third party ink says that they may look as good as good as Epson ink but they don't last as long. This is for dye ink. Does anyone have any idea what the longevity of this ink is? I realize most people probably don't care.
