Poolenglish, I'm not sure if refillable carts need to be primed for the first use....did you try running a cleaning? Did you try a test print/purge. If all else fails let me know...I'll walk you through a manual cleaning because I know that if you left the carts out of the printer for an extended period of time you'll get clogged nozzles and believe it or not 15 minutes is too long. LOL!

  2. I was supposed to remove the rubber plug on the tank side of the cart...my bad. Now all is good and nice to NOT see the hoses going back and forth! thx macro

btw www.printforless.tk is where i bought the refillable carts. they have a sponge(foam) in the feed side, auto reset chips installed.
also, this is the new version he has which can be filled while in the printer.

Poolenglish, That's real easy.... If it's the Jlw kit you'll use a needled syringe....Draw the ink out from the smaller chamber and you can put that in a bottle....tip the kit forward to fill the small chamber with ink again...draw that out with the syringe and repeat this until you get all of the ink for that color...it's just like refilling the kit only backwards (you can put the sealing plugs on the other colors to prevent spilling)

  5. i want the ink completly out of the carts and the lines, the chambers are the easy part

Poolenglish... That's real easy.....you won't believe it.... Take the needle off the syringe....you need to pull the plunger down (draw air into the syringe) before inserting it into the carts outlet port....and of course....push the plunger inward....this will force air into the cart causing all the ink to move in the opposite direction( to the tanks) Do this again and again until the tubing shows up clear....remember to take the syringe out every-time you need to draw air into it make sure there's not alot of ink in the tanks because it's gonna over-flow.. especially in the small tank. LOL! BTW, Make sure when you do this that the cart is upside-down...ya know...the outlet port facing the ceiling.

When my hands got that way I used paint thinner along with scouring powder(ajax) and soapy water in between... I learned to use gloves. And of course use one of those new scouring pads...the blue ones for pots...they're made of hardened plastic but they don't hurt your hands....most of the ink will come off. Rule of thumb is that you have to wash the ink off immediatlly or it'll attach under the skin. LOL! and CONGRATS!

It might be fun to have folks post pictures of how bad they got dyed... I know we've all been there and all used the plastic scouring side of the sponges to clean up.

But, what's the best before and after results? Points deducted for after shots that include blood. =)

  10. Here are pics of my new refillable carts, the kool thing is i can refill in the printer and i can tell if one is empty by the colored line(chamber) running across the top.

  11. Poolenglish,
Nice looking setup, but didn't you say these carts have a sponge in them? Is that good or bad? I thought I saw something about sponges gone bad somewhere in these threads. Anywho, I am checking to see if printforless has CIS and fillable carts to fit my Epson 960. But I am having trouble with their site, seems like they are having server problems.
Also, do you have to remove the plugs for them to print & leave them out or what? The more I read, the more I get confused.LOL
Thanks for showing this & sure would appreciate comments from you and all.
    Aloha!

  12. re/Like;
the refillable carts come delivered empty, with rubber stoppers on both ends. after filling both ends....You have to leave the stopper on the tank side off for a vent. or it becomes a sealed chamber and ink will not be able to flow.
You might want to consider this method rather than CIS. Those hoses flopping around gets kind of annoying. And after all, the point is to save money.
I was told that foam is ok and there is also a filter in the supply side.

I printed about 900+ cds since dec 04 with the jwl cis and was satisfied. But the hoses and configuration are a pain. I wont mind filling the new carts, because they will never leave the printer to be filled.

Poolenglish, It's possible indeed....You'll have to buy the fittings for the carts. I don't think you'll need anything else. They cost about $1.50 each. You can get them from weink.com or colorbat.com . If you want I can post a direct link to the part. They're called barbed fittings...they screw in the cart...you might have to buy a bit to open the hole a little on the cart. It shouldn't be much more of an opening than what's on it already....maybe a fraction of an inch more if needed. However I suggest not...you'll be better off getting in on the deal JLWSALES has for his older CIS KIT... He's offered a few of us replacement carts for $5.50 each. They're OEM standard...chambers and mechanical valves. $40 with shipping and I believe auto-reset chips and fittings come with them as well.

Poolenglish, You make me laugh....Flirting with danger? What would your wife say?....Ink all over the place? Your lucky this time! Compressed Air! Damn, Dude...your gonna blow all of us away...you know that's how firecrackers...dynamite...ECT. works! Glad it didn't blow up on you but remember...that's how explosives work...pressure that can't disburst fast enough! The plastic could have seriously harmed you...Be careful next time and use a syringe.

  21. Just a squirt of 2 psi off the compressor, a little at a time.
and btw I found out that I had a leak in the yellow cart last week and had to keep using it to keep it primed. By cleaning the carts out i found out that it was the bottom seal on the yellow cart, the cart would not buldge and leaked out the service end(bottom) it was fun to do. ONCE but never again tho.

and my wife is the greatest, she is 26 and I am 48, we have been married 4 years. It just took a little training lol

Just been looking at the new JLW system.
They have certainly made a lot of improvements (at a price). I like the new carts, they remind me of the dampers used in the InkRepublic system.

    http://www.inkrepublic.com/inkkits.asp

The smaller tubing will require top quality ink to avoid problems.

I emailed JLW Sales about the auto-cleaning problem :-

    Dear jlwsales,

Your new system look's like it has a lot of improvements. The only fault with these systems in general is that when the chip resets to 100% the printer 'thinks' a new set of carts has been installed & does a recharge, which wastes a lot of ink. Have you found a way to avoid this ?

    This is their reply :-

    Dear Sir,

We are working on improvement on this, but we test the “reset to 95% chip” isn’t really stable yet so didn’t think it’s good the to move to it yet.

    Thanks

    JLW

So this problem has'nt been cracked yet.
If this problem is solved & if my present system let's me down, I would give it some serious thought.

Bidefordboy, I'm gonna look into the flash technology used because it is possible to program a chip to reset to 90% but I'm not finished checking how it reads the levels

  25. Are the installation instructions posted online anywhere? I lost mine (lent them to someone who wants to buy one). The website www.jlwsales.com contains only an "Under Construction" notice.

Please elaborate... Just got the new system, even though I'm not ready to install it that information could be useful. I did read through it and it seemed to be pretty "common sense" stuff. Nothing glaringly wrong.

  29. After many different configuration trys (you can see the duct tape marks) I ran mine like this for 6 months smoothly

I cut a slot to hold the tubes like this pic below.... and I did not connect the tubes on the carts to let them freewheel back and forth (I removed the sticky holder near the carts)

Yes, I read all that and looked at the pictures. Thank you. I don't have a problem with the mechanics of installing the cartridges, routing the tubing, etc.

I should have been specific: I don't remember the sequence of tipping the bank of ink containers to establish the proper levels in the two sections, when to open the vents (and place the filters), what the printer should do to prime the system (remove air bubbles from the ribbon tubing), etc. Debugging procedures (if necessary?)

People also mentioned cleaning out the sponges, but no details. Do they just pull out? What about the one on the right with the fishing line over the top? What to clean with? Water? Alchohol? Something else? I feel like these are FAQs, but I didn't see any reference to an FAQ list. I'd be willing to compile one if we could collect the likely questions and the consensus answers, etc.
