  1. Hi, I am a happy novice owner of a MiniDV camera (a cheap JVC GR-DX27E if you want to know).

I don't have any big technical problems for recording and editing my movies, but as it is the first video camera I own, I need some guidance on how to record and edit a good looking product. I bought the camera to record family and friends stuff, but would like to get professional looking results anyway.

I am looking for a document / forum / website with advices like "don't abuse zoom" and recommendations such as "use such or such effect under this and that conditions". Also some more technical-oriented recommendations such as which camera settings to use under certains conditions, etc.

I have searched through this website but have not found it...

I am currently using Ulead Video Studio to edit and burn the recording in a DVD.

    Thank you,
    Luis.

You'll learn more by trial and error than by reading about it. Here's some absolute things to do:

    1) disable your Digital Zoom........It's a useless feature that degrades quality. only use the camera's Optical Zoom.

    2) Set the Audio to 16 bit mode.

    3) Use a tripod.

    4) Shoot a lot.......... you can edit out the junk later, but you can never add.

    5) use lots of lighting when shooting indoor.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........

(Maybe it's something in my machine but I can't read anything else in that message. Did you want to add a link or something like that?).

    Regards,
