Just an update about BB. They are slow. I have been with them a month on 3 out and have only gotten 7 flics. Also, they have not answered any of my e-mails. One of the 7 was unplayable and the replacement never arrived. But I did find 3 movies that Netflix did not carry, but there are far more that BB doesn't carry, that Netflix does.

For Me Walmart is no benefit, simply because their database of Foreign Films is non existent and the very few they have are alway on a LONG WAIT In the case of netflix, I do not rent many movies, I would say 9 in a 30 day period. In the beginning I would receive a movie from one day to the next. same for returns. the last several weeks, I have noticed they have gone from next day to 5-6 days, for sending and receiving. I did also notice I would receive movies next day when I am 1 week away from my next billing date. I do hope they will not go out of business, it is where i find 80% of my foreign films
Thanks for reading my 2cents

I'm sorry to hear your experiencing slow shipments, but if someone else were getting their disks quickly, what would that prove? If Netflix were intentionally delaying shipments, wouldn't it mean that everyone's shipments are delayed?
I've been getting my disks in a day or two. Netflix checks them in the day after I mail them. I haven't had any delays lately, intentional or otherwise.

FOX News at 11:
Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix today issued an ultimatum to all distribution centres to withhold the rentals of all those who are seen to be "heavy" users. Hastings wouldn't be drawn into disclosing the actual number of rentals per month that would qualify a user as being regarded as "heavy", but said it was "a significant number". He later added that "heavy" could also be used to describe the appearance of most black-listed renters affected by the sca ......... eh egm .......... marketing gimmick.
This move follows the introduction of Dual Layer (DL) burning technology - allowing 1:1 copies of most commercial DVDs. Hastings has often prophesized about technology being the bane of his company's existence, for it seems that a number of scanned DVD images have appeared on www.cdcovers.cc, a well-known and very popular CD/DVD images website. This indicates that users are scanning Netflix-owned DVDs, he claims. "I find it hard to believe you would scan the disc, just for the cover art", he said. He also mentioned that an internal investigation of a number of P2P softwares and warez sites revealed the word "netflix" in the titles of in excess of 35,000 files, and was growing by the day.
In newspaper interviews, Hastings likes to tell the story of how Netflix was born: He rented Apollo 13 from Blockbuster, forgot to return it, got socked with a $40 late fee, and realized there had to be a better way. "Charge people a monthly fee and for lost DVDs, but withhold their rentals. It's a masterstroke of anecdotal marketing, in the tradition of the publicist who said eBay was built on a fondness for Pez dispensers", said Hastings. In his interview, Hastings saved the best surprise until last: he announced that he was, in fact, the second gunman on the Grassy Knoll. However, he remains adamant that Lee Harvey Oswald was the shooter, and he was simply there to withhold the evidence.

Been with Netflix since 03, 3 at a time, haven't had a problem, am not trying to get 30 a month out of them, barely have time to watch 3 in a 2 day period
let alone all in 1 day. Walmart and Blockbuster don't have the same selection. I've checked the travel time a couple of times, seems like 4 days from when I drop it in the mail to the new movie getting here. Their nearest shop is about 16 miles away. I'll stick with Netflix.

I know, having worked at a company that ships and receives more items in one day then a netflix center probably does in a week or two.
I never said that netflix has or had a policy of shipping only so many movies a month. Come to think of it according to many of you that would be a great policy I guess it doesn't sound as good as unlimited rentals 3 out at a time. My only contention was some centers are faster then others. So how about it guys a 20 movie a month cap maybe 25. They do it for the cheapest plan.

Hey ,
I appreciate the constructive criticizm, and I must say that I truly average 9 films per months. take a momemt to consider the following. when Netflix advertised UNLIMITED RENTAL, you cannot really beleived they did not take into consideration they would have heavy users, be realistic. If you have some guy sitting at home living off his parents, or some retired senior with nothing else to do, or people who work from home. surely you can expect to have heavy users, sure you have the few that are abusers, but does't every industry have its exceptions. When you first sign up with netflix they send you a movie from one day to the next, but it only last so long, then they delay shipments 5-6 days, but how convinient it is to get back on track to next day shipment when you are 1 week away from your next billing date.

Hey All,
I have 1 suggestion, go to www.netflix.com and read the first line of the benefits, It clearly states:
Rent all the DVDs you want for $17.99 a month — NO LATE FEES!
• Over 25,000 Titles - Classics to New Releases.
• Free Shipping Both Ways.
• No Driving. No Lines. No Hassles.
• Always have up to 3 DVDs at home.
• No Commitments. Cancel Anytime.
Did you notice " Rent all the DVDs you want for $17.99 a month — NO LATE FEES! " did you also notice, it is written in a bigger font than the other benefits. All we are asking, is for them to honor what they advertise ALL THE DVD"S YOU WANTThanks and Regards

I can say that I have not seen any delays based on what week my membership is in or if my membership is old or new. I do see the problem of never having 3 movies at my home at one time after the first shipment. The postal service must be out to get netflix because they take forever to get movies back to them. Another thing I noticed was some movies listed as available will come out of queue only to say its shipping at a latter date. That said they are far better then the other two online rental joints I have tried.

I agree, in my case I have found netflix to be the quickest when they are not purpose delaying shipments, I tried BBV, but they also delay 4-6 days to ship and receive, I know netflix have a distribution center in Fort Lauderdale, near the fort Lauderdale main post office, my post office is only a 15-20 minute drive from there, so you see, i just cannot understand 5-6 days delay. Thanks and Regards

Have you considered that the movies that are 'delayed' may not be available at you local distribution center? If they have to ship from a remote center, they'll take longer to arrive.
There are more reasonable explanations than that NetFlix is intentionally delaying your shipments, but not delaying other's. Or have you already made up your mind?

Well,
they need to do a better job, consider how many new subscribers join daily. if they cannot meet the demands for current subscribers how will they keep up with the demand of current and new subscribers, they should be thankful for heavy users( which i am not ) who only keep a movie from one day to the next so they can have a better turnaround and shorter delays for non heavy users. Thanks and Regards

You are generalizing your experience and opinions to everyone. Not everyone would agree with you. Based on Netflix's popularity and phenomenal growth, I'd say that very few people would agree with you.
I, for one, don't share your opinion. I think Netflix does an excellent job of managing their inventory. I get the vast majority of my disks in a day or two. In fact, my average delivery time year to date is 1.69 days. My average delivery time for 2003 was 2.49 days, and for 2002 it was 2.86 days, so not only do they do an excellent job, they're getting faster.
And just to set this point, my average delivery time for the last 3 months is 1.50 days, and for November 1.27 days. In my experience, their have been no slow downs lately - service overall has been very consistent. I'll get an occasional disk - perhaps one or two a month - that takes longer to arrive, but I fully expect that is because it isn't available at the closest distribution center.
-
Just read through this topic and wanted to comment. I've been with Netflix for about a year. Great selection. 3 out program subscription. I have noticed for the past 3 months or so that a lot of my movies will be received but then the new ones don't ship until the next day. These movies are receieved early in the morning according to their website. I tried to figure out a pattern. Perhaps it was new releases or old hard to find movies that were causing the delays, but I couldn't tie it together. I'm not sure what to make of it. I do know that when I was sick for a few months back when I joined and was receiving a dvd in the mail in the morning, watching it during the day, and then mailing it back before the 5:30pm last pickup the DVD's were always received the next day at Netflix and the new one shipped that day. Perhaps they are trying to throttle to contain costs, but I have no hard proof of that.

I love all the feed back from you guys and I must say, I see the point from each of you, as well as my own, As in my prior post, I too, love netflix and hope they will be around for a long time to come. I will continue my membeship and continue to monitor the delivery times, if It become an inconvinience to me, i'll simply go to my local Blockbuster store and cancel my membership with Netflix. Keep the debate, its healthy to read other poits of views. Its been a pleasure guys.
Thanks and Regards
