  1. I bought some Fujifilm 8X media today and went to burn a DVD using my NEC 1300A as I normally do (using DVD-Shrink with the Nero tie-in so it just burns the DVD right after it shrinks it.) And when it is done compressing it it just haults and I get a long technical error message. I figgured that I needed to flash the firmware on my DVD-R drive. I updated them to 1.8 (which from what I could see was the latest version) and I still get the same message. I know it's not the brand, because my older Fujifilm 4x DVD-Rs work fine. I would have no problem just getting 4x Media and not having to worry about this, but if DVD-Rs are anything like CD-Rs then the chances are I won't be able to find 4x media before too long. Has anyone else had a similar problem, and could anyone please help me? Thank you very much in advance.

Without the error msg how would anyone know what your problem is or how to help you?

TheRybot just because it's the same brand doesn't mean it's made by the same manufacturer as the 4x discs. Can you show us the media code?

  4. Easy to answer:

The media has to be listed in the NEC1300A's firmware. If it's not- the NEC1300A assumes that it's 1x media. But the minimum speed the NEC1300 does a burn is 2x. So it refuses to burn the disc. Don't know if the newest fw has your media ID listed but give it a try. Best site for fw is rpc1.org

Try the newest 1.0C from here:
