  1. In order to distribute any software, even under the GNU Licence, they must ask for the permission of the Author, i'm not the programmer here, so it's really not my business, and they could propably claim they are charging for the CD Covers and the guide and whatever else they did in there.

This doesn't make it right, and I don't think anyone should pay and support them, if you want to pay for anyone, pay the author of the program, atleast let him earn his credit.

Dont anyone take this the wrong way I mean I think that what this company is doing is wrong and basically they are just running a con, charging for software that is free but can everyone here honestly say that they have never copied/backedup a DVD that they dont own?
I'm not trying to cause an argument or anything here but they are selling this to make a few quid while some will borrow a mates DVD to save a few quid. I know that this site is legit and quite rightly states that you must own the DVD before copying/converting it but are we all 100% honest?

  4. I'll tell you what's the major diffrence here, the reason people rip DVD's they don't own, is because of the stupid CSS and MPAA, the prices are higher then they should be, because all DVD Manufacturer and movies have to pay them royalties for a stupid protection which can be hacked by 8 lines of perl!

I'm not saying it's nice of us to copy those DVD's, but they do deserve what's coming to them, all those hollywood studius are making too much unjustified money.

But as for selling something you don't own, well, I may copy a DVD that belongs to a friend, but atleast I don't sell it to make profit out of it! that is a completly diffrent issue!

Dont get me wrong mate selling something you dont own is definitely out of order but simply justifying the fact that it is ok to copy a DVD simply because of the lack of protection is a weak reason. Studios do make alot of money but what big company doesnt, lets face it if any of us were in their position could we honestly turn round and say 'yeah lets only take 500k this year instead of 1m'.
End of the day we do (i'm no angel) what this other 'ripoff' outfit are doing only they are taking a different path.

  6. Smudge249, don't get me wrong, i'm not saying ripping DVD you don't own is nice of us, but hey, they deserve it, and I hope people keep doing it till they get the hint and put prices on a decent level.

  8. And who ever said CDRWin is free ? I don't even use it, the stupid program doesn't even support beyound 80min CDR's, i use the free CDRDao which works perfectly with another free program called TSCV, and if you notice in my guide i've used a movie I own, not a rental.

Nero is the best for simple menu's, but if you want advanced menu's and chapters TSCV is the way to go. Nero should get advanced VCD features and then it'll rule!
