A bank is using faster Dells? We use our Dells for DCC and we still only have 2.53s (albeit with Quadro FX video cards and 1GB RDRAM). I keep complaining to them to make one as fast as my home computer so we can actually get work done. So for the time being I use the dual 2 GHz G5 since OSX rules.

  6. Good thing about going to university is that they always have the latest equipment. Xeons, G5's, 3Ghz P4s etc.

Now my part time workplace, well thats a different story, still using a DOS based program on Pentium 200 computers.

I built a new rig for work, not too long ago. It's based on an Barton core 2600+. Not the fastest chip on the market, but the damn thing flies.

My home box is a dual 2000+ machine, which is getting kind of dated. It's still good for encoding and all, but it's not as zippy as the 2600 machine.

After I built my work computer, I was really tempted to put together a new home system, but I'm waiting for the opterons to come down in price.

    Hello,

Oh one more thing... I finally have a mouse with a scroll wheel at work!

    Surfing sucked without one!

My work is to cheap for new PCs. A tech support place where the fastest mac is a lone 700mhz eMac, and the normal PC on the floor is a 450mhz PII.

I got lucky and snagged one of the rare P3 700s, but the hard drive was slowing it down. I had IS ghost it, and in the process suggested a different drive, they took me up on the idea and everything is ok now. Or it would be if I had more then 196mb of crappy quality PC100 memory.
