  2. Everything else in the spec being the same, get the cheaper one! (probably the 4:3 one)

  4. the widescreen is a couple hundred more and its a desktop replacement so size is not an issue. Im just concerned about how 4x3 content will look on it.

    Hello,

I have a 4x3 tv and watched some cropped widescreen tv show on it. The broadcast was the smaller crop like the 1.85:1 dvd movies. During the broadcast it showed what must have been nonhd clips. The left and right sides of the screen got chopped by the same amount as the bottom so it appeared square. Hope that helps give you an idea of what it might be like.

If you're getting it for real work and movies as secondary I'd opt for 4:3. A lot of the widescreen laptops I've seen are bigger and more awkward than my 4:3 and I've got 16" (that's right ladies). :P If it's mainly for movies I'd say go with widescreen, although I like the way movies look letterboxed on my screen. Black bars never really bother me.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

It's just going to be surfing the web and watching television content in 4x3. I just wondered what it would look like on a WS display, or if I watch dvds that are non-anamorphic, will it have black bars on top bottom and left right as well?

It will look wider. Not necessarily stretched out, you'll just have more space on the right side of your web pages. Some will expand to fit, some won't.

If your major problem is the black bars, I'd say, "Get the damn cheaper screen, buck up and ingnore the friggin' bars. It's not going to blind you to have black bars." But since I'm nice I'll say, "Get whatever you want, It's your money. If you want suggestion, I'd go with a standard screen. If you want to invest the more money into it, get a larger Full Screen. not all Wide screens are 2:35, so some movies you'll still have black bars. Full screens might give black bars on the sides."

Buy the 4:3... get black bars. Turn off the lights... no black bars.
