    Hi!

I was unsure where to put this topic. I've recently scanned a few of my burnt DVD media, movies only not data. I started to scan them using Nero CD-DVD speed. I have scanned them using the disc scan function and file test function. I have scanned about 5 discs so far and all of them are as follows:

    Starting surface scan
    Good: 99.90 %
    Damaged: 0.00 %
Unreadable: 0.10 % (THE HIGHEST EVER HAS BEEN 0.11%)
    Surface scan completed

The unreadable point is always the 'edge/tip' of the burn, never in the middle of the 'data'. I am not burning over the 4 GIG mark. The images I'm burning are all between 2.5GB and 3.7GB. I'm using Ridisc A Grade reel media with G04 dye. I've tried reading the burn back to the hard drive as an image using DVD Decryptor, works fine. The burns play fine also.

What is causing these unreadable errors? Should I be worried? I burn with DVD Decryptor. Also is surface scan of disc enough or is file test also advisable/cumpulsory?

    Thanks!

Try another drive/computer. It sounds like the software/drive is pissing off the CPU when it starts to end the check cycle. What speed is this computer? I've seen this error before. Is it always on all discs you check?

    Hi!

Thank you very much lordsmurf for replying. I was testing the discs using my Toshiba 1612 DVD ROM. I re-checked 3 of the 5 discs using my Pioneer 105 which were giving me these errors. They are now error-free. I just have 2 more to check and I'm quite sure that they are error-free as well. Changing the drive really helped.

Just one final question please. I am using NERO CD-DVD SPEED for testing burns. I am using the surface scan option under [menu] [extra] and checking the box [surface scan]. Is surface scan of disc enough or is file test also advisable/cumpulsory?. Any other options i should be using in NERO CD-DVD SPEED?

    Thanks for the help.
