  1. Hello.

Just recently I decided to purchase CCE Basic.

I must admit I am happy with it's speed and quality and menu "quickness".

I mostly use AVI files to convert some home stuff captures. Due to disk space and speed I mostly use YVU9 to capture (VFW drivers so the picture looks just as close as YUY2 - it's not like with WDM where there's whole bunch of green color added out of nowhere - well that's result I get) at 352x480.

So now being familiar with the field order screw up I first run the whole file through tmpgenc wizard to determine field order.

Then I do small portion in CCE (trim file) and presumably encode the beginning portion of movie for about 6 seconds duration.

I did use bottom field order just as tmpgenc suggested and I also did that in CCE and then tested it.

Small portion of it was OK and I even burned the DVDRW to test it in home player. It was perfectly fine. (funny thing is I also did a small portion in upper field and it was ok as well).

Now I encoded the bigger portion of file and I trimmed a little bit of the end of it. Did the encoding in bottom field as determined and guess what?

I got that VirtualDub SWAP FIELD effect on my DVD.

Then I reencoded with Upper field and it was fine.

SO what did I mess up in this procedure?

  2. I've noticed with TV captures that the field order, seems to alternate with the broadcast. While the TV program might be telecined, the commercials tend to be pure NTSC - 29.97 fps. Hybrid material?

Did you try encoding with TMPGEnc? I'd be surprised if you had better results with a different encoder.

Look at the source in VirtualDub, Frame-by-Frame, to see if a pattern emerges. (3:2, 1:1)

You could try to cut your project at the transition points and encode the parts individually, or (you didn't hear this from me) De-Interlace the whole thing.
