Hey! I'm a newb, but I've googled all forums for help with this. I use TDA, Shrink, & decrypter with no problems. I recently tried IFOedit for the first time, though. I followed all steps from every guide I could find about splitting a disc for backup. As all the guides state, you copy the missing files from the original to folder disc1 & disc2 , load them back into IFOedit and get VTS sectors, then save. I did all this and when finished, disc2 burned fine and played fine. Disc 1, however, gave that error when trying to view in ifoedits player. I tried to load it into DVDShrink and it said the movie was only 18MB even though on the HD it shows up as 3.7GB and each VOB will play in PowerDVD. I could even watch it in file mode with PwrDVD. So I rechecked VOB IDs and get VTS sectors again and IFOedit tells me I have invalid VOBs. What does this mean? Has this happened to anyone else? Oh! Before getting VTS sectors, I moved the extras that weren't part of the split to the disc2 folder. All other VIDEO_TS,.BUP,.IFO were pasted the same in both folders. Any ideas why disc 2 worked but disc 1 gave me invalid VOBs?

I had the same problem when loading disc1 in DVDshrink. Says it's missing xxx.vob. I just said heck with it and burned the discs to a DVDRW to test them anyway. They work flawlessly on my standalone player. BTW, I burned them using TMPGEnc DVD Author.
PS, I followed this guide (except I put the missing files on both discs, as it gave me the choice to see the extras from both discs) and it worked just fine.

No Go. I've tried that guide and every guide I could find but ifoedit will never give me a working Disc1. I've tried with 3 different projects and put all missing files on both discs and Disc 2 is the only one that will work. Maybe I'm missing something, but I've even checked in German forums. One said to redo the chapter information in VIDEO_TS, but that didn't work either. I like Shrink, Decrypter, TDA, and Nero, but Ifoedit sucks and has many bugs with XP (makes my computer slow down and crash ) I guess if I want to split I'll stick with DVDShrink and make my own menus.

there is a few ways to split a DVD (a search for split turns up these threads). It all depends on the structure of the original DVD as to what tools will work and which ones will barf

Thanks much MackemX! I checked out the links and looked at your guide. I think I'll give some other tools a try. Okay , ifoedit doesn't suck. I'm just a newb that got frustrated as it's quite complex to me. BTW, all that I tried to split were DL and I hit it at layer break. All were rip with DVDdecrypter and had only one angle available as I always check in Shrink what is there because I let decrypter grab everything. If I use DRM, do I still need ifoedit? If so, can you recommend a guide for using both together? Thanks again for your reply.

Try DVDFab freeware from here to split to 2 discs:

There is a new commercial version as well but the old (free) one always worked for me.
