im trying to install a program on my desktop pc from a burned cd but there is one file that it wont copy windows displays a message saying cant access .... file make sure its on the disc, basically. i checked and its there. whats the deal? i was using my off brand cdr drive the is fairly new
second i was trying to install vb for my vb.net class, cd out of the book for the class, and the same thing happened, but this time it was on my laptop with a dvdr/cdr windows said it wasnt able to access a certain file but it was on the cd? whats goin on?
ps, sorry i dont know the exact manufactures of the drives cos im at school now thanks for the help

Usually means the disc is dirty or damaged. Just "seeing" the file name doesn't mean much since the drive is reading the names from the "table of contents" which is on another part of the disc. When is actually goes to the sector(s) where the file is, then it has problems. Some drives are better than others at reading through bad spots / dirt / smudges etc. Looking for smudges and removing them sometimes helps.

Gotta be one of three things:
Disk was created wrong (unlikely)
Bad Media
Bad Reader
You might try it on a friends machine to try and eliminate #3 -
thanks for the help so far guys but here is what is happening now. im installing the software and i keep getting an error message saying :error reading from file......... please verify that the file existsand that you can access it" well it does and i can so i hit retry and it installs a few more percents then i get the error again so i hit retry again and it installs a few more percents, this keeps happening over and over. whats the deal? thanks again for your help
