Problems trying to author - REALLY NEED HELP

I've been authoring for awhile with no problems, all of a sudden out of nowhere, my burner decided it didn't like DVD-Rs. I could write to +R and +RW with no trouble, but it wouldnt write to -R or -RW anymore. I tried several different media and several different burning programs but couldnt fix it. I bought a new burner, and all went well for 4 months but now the same thing has happened again. I really need some help with this.

Nero worked, copytodvd worked, Roxio worked, many of them worked, but now none of them do... I've reinstalled nero many times, and it still won't work anymore, it doesn't seem to be the programs, doesn't seem to be the media and doesn't seem to be the burners... I'm desperate here.

btw, my 1st burner was a pioneer.. my current one is NEC 2500A... same problems with both burners....

Can you still burn to CD but not to DVD? If you answer yes then I would say your laser is faulty. It happened to me with NEC 1300 4x. I presently have a NEC 2510A and NEC 3500AG now and they are great. If no burning programs can burn to DVD that you probably have a shot laser. That is if you can still burn to CDs.
I could be off on this but mine did that very thing without one iota of warning. I burned a DVD perfectly and them it would not recognize the precence of any type of DVD disk or store bought Movie disk immediately afterwards.

well, thats the odd part... I can still write to CDs, DVD+R and DVD+RW ... it just won't write to DVD-R or DVD-RWs anymore.

I've just finished reinstalling windows and tried it again with just the basics + nero and still get the same problems. And no, my first drive was a pioneer... the current one is NEC.
