Sorry if this is in the wrong spot. I searched the forums and couldn't find anything that helped this particular issue. Also, forgive my terminology if it's not very good, I am a newbie!
OK. I have a 720x480 video clip captured from a DV camera that I am trying to save as a 320x240 video clip for use on a website. Using MediaStudio 6.5 I can insert the video clip. Then I can right-click the clip and I have an option called Field Options. I have no clue what this actually does, but I am able to select between Frame Based, Field Order A and Field Order B. If I select anything other than Frame Based I get a lot of jaggies on the video that I create. So, I select Frame Based and it looks good.
Now...using MediaStudio 7.01 which is what I prefer to use since that's what is installed on my video editing machine...I don't get these same options. When I right-click the clip, I get the Media Source Options option instead of Field Options, and when I click on it it's just stuck on Field Order A. I get the option to click Deinterlace but that's the only option available to me. When I create the video I get jaggies.
I could solve my problem using 6.5 but I'd really like to know how to achieve the same thing using 7.01 since that's what I mostly use. And I have a lot of projects already done in 7.01 that won't load on the 6.5 machine.
Any ideas?

The options you are getting in MediaStudio 6.5 i.e 'field order' are de-interlace option using different methods. If these are unavailable in MediaStudio you may need to pre-process/de-interlace your video footage in another program first, for example Virtualdub, which has a built-in de-interlace filter which you can use.

OK...after running it through VirtualDub I do get all the options back. Unfortunately switching it to Frame Based doesn't take out the jaggies like it does in 6.5 so now I'm even more confused.

After loading your video file in Virtualdub >
Choose > Video > Filters > Add
scroll down list till you see 'deinterlace (internal)'
Highlight it > click ok.
Now little box should appear listing all the different intelace modes.
Choose the one that works best!
Now choose > Video > Compression
and select video compression for saving back processed video.
Make sure video is set for 'full processing mode' (on video tab - it should be already)
Now choose File > save avi as. -
Brilliant!
I dunno why it works...but it works!
Thanks for your help! -
Use the Deinterlace option you found in MSP7. That will get you the (arguably) best quality unless you can inverse telecine.

Unfortunately when I just used the Deinterlace option in MSP7 I would still get all the jaggies in the video. But running the original video through VirtualDub first gave me the other options and made the video look smooth at 320x240. Now I've just got to run a ton of video through VirtualDub...
