i try to do the following and wonder how i can do it:
i wanna simulate kind of splitscreen effect in a video. so i have two cropped videos with 352x576 resolution each. and i want to clip them together to one single 704x576 video.
any idea how i can do this?

Your videos are Avi or mpeg?
The theory behind is the same: You have to resize to 704 x 576. In case you have avi, you can do this with virtualdub. In case you have mpeg, bad news: You need to re-encode to 704 x 576.
A third alternative, is to do what you wish to do, export and then re-encode the result to 704 x 576La Linea by Osvaldo Cavandoli

this is not what i wanna do. sorry, you got me wrong.
say, i have a video 352x576 showing a person looking to the right, duration 15 secs. and i have a video 352x576 showing a person looking to the left, duration 15 secs. now i want to put these two videos together into one picture 704x576, so it looks like these two persons looking at each other, duration 15 secs.
i dont want to put these videos one after the other, duration 30 secs.
hope this is better to understand
thx,

Yes, now it is more clear to me.

Yes, AVISynth is my suggestion too. Look for "picture in picture", as that's what it basically is. Saw a rather recent thread on this at doom9's avisynth forum

It's actually quite simple, it's just ..
Code:a = Avisource("c:\left.avi",false) b = Avisource("c:\right.avi",false) StackHorizontal(a,b)

Wax will do it easily and it's free. You can get it here:

had a look into wax last night.
but i didnt find the transition or plugin to combine two vids like i want it.
is there a special plugin to download somewhere else, or which is the the one to use inside wax?
thx. -
I assume with Wax it will be like in Premiere - you resize and place one clip in the timeline, and resize and place the second in another video at the same point on the timeline. Possibly the Transform filter?

Put each clip on it's own track. Right-click on the clip and deselect strech to fit (or something like that, it's been a while). Use the 3d object filter on each clip to move them into the proper place. Wax also suports psd's with transparency, so if you want, you could overlay a nice frame for your clips.
You just have to play around with it until you figure it out. Wax is a very powerfull video editor. And like all powerfull editors, it's a little complex. Once you learn it, you'd be amazed at what it could do, especially since it's free.
I'd write a tutorial, but I don't have the time.
