"According to the MacWorld Article, Cherry OS, does what Virtual PC does for Macs, only the opposite. PC Users are now able to run Mac OSX at G4 Speeds (Company claims 80% of the speed of your PC). It also includes full hardware support: hard drive, CPU, RAM, FireWire, USB, PCI, PCMCIA bus, Ethernet networking and modem. The software is being distributed through electronic download at $49.99 USD..."

"Terminated!" :firing: -
well our people here on OSX say it kind suxs also just as much as XP (which means not a whole lot) -- and you would have to buy all new software ..
and now have to start paying for OS updates and the like ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Why not just switch to linux without the virtual pc emulator program?
-
Yes, OSX sucks as much as XP. Too much eye candy, lots of crashing, more than XP even.
But I'm a sucker for DVDSP1 and OS9.
So a-visiting that link I shall go.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Most folks simply don't do enough with a PC to really appreciate an OS that is superior to Windows.
"There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon." -- Raoul Duke -
I used linux exclusivly for over 2 years. It's doesnt suck because it's hard it sucks because of it's limitations and lack of good software. Photoshop & Illustrator for one, and The Gimp is not even a close second.
DVD encoding and burning is a major pain in the ass cause of the sub-standard software. Not to mention X randomly crashing or locking up all the time."Terminated!" :firing: -
Thayne,
That is why you use Wine.
With Wine, you can use windows programs. -
I've found Linux runs more stable than most of the high end OS's out there. I just can't find enough software programs for it that I need or want to use. If they hurry up and push on the market for personal PCs, they might be serious competition for MS OS's. If they don't hurry and push, then they'll go the way of Mac and be really good systems that don't have a lot of widely used and certain practical softwares.

You must not get out much Doramius,
You can buy Linux PC desktops at Wal-Mart and Fry's for next to nothing.
They are almost giving the PC's away. -

Mac is further ahead than most. I can go to places and they may have a handfull of software and applications. -
wasn't that called Beos ? :

I think I have BeOS somewhere. Never got around to doing much with it. It looked nice though.

Dude...... now I have a craving for cherries, bye I'm off to the store.
No shit I'm not kidding.

Hmm, this means now you can use a Mac to emulate Windows emulating Mac OS emulating Windows emulating .....

Well ok my DREAM would be a PC version of OSX from apple. -

Windows will never lose it's popularity.
Too many people are use to using it.
After using Windows, the average person has no chance in hell of jumping on a Linux box and getting around easily. MOST workplaces use Windows and do you think companies are going to decide to just switch to Linux someday for workstations? Why would they? I've seen people waste LOTS of time trying to figure out a way to do what they want in Windows. Linux is good for servers and experienced computer users/administrators...and that makes up for a very small market. -
Well if this is annnnnnnnnnnyyyyyyyyyyythinnnnnnnnng like virtual pc, thennnnnnnnnnnnn you will need boatloads of ram just to keep from draggggggggggggggiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggg gg because it is sofa king slow.

Most of the computer users are illiterate ignorants who have no idea what i.e. simple keyboard shortcut like CTRL+C is! and some of you want these people to use linux?!

5:00am CST, and their site is down (again):
http://www.cherryos.com
I already have no faith in their product.
And to top it off, they have this gay "cherry song" on the placeholder page.
I'm now betting on "false alarm" as nobody has apparently used or even heard of this sudden "masterpiece". I ran a search on it. Nothing.
Hope I'm wrong.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I agree with thayne about Wine... If you need to use it for programs you commonly use and like using (which generally means that there is no suitable equivalent), you might as well stick with Windows.

I know they are. There's hardly any software for them and they can't unload them for that reason. PCs sell better than Mac, and it's primarily due to software.
As far as Linux goes, there is plenty of software... just not alot of great software. Also, there's support for Linux, but in more of a "read up and learn" type of support. Most home users don't want to deal with that. Most home users don't know the difference between an OS and a Software package. Example: I asked my father what OS he was running on his computer at work... he said Office 2000. -
That is why linux is fine for the people that are afraid of computers.
It does web surfing and word processing just fine.
However, Seasoned vets like me love the stability of Linux. I also love the server capabilities of Linux.
