A friend e-mailed me this. Sorry, don't have a link to the site.

Classmates Sue Over 'Dazed and Confused'

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Three former high school classmates of ``Dazed and Confused'' director Richard Linklater have filed a lawsuit claiming they have suffered embarrassment and ridicule because of characters based on them in the movie.

The men - Bobby Wooderson, Andy Slater and Richard ``Pink'' Floyd - say Linklater did not get their permission before creating three characters in the 1993 cult classic sharing their surnames and likenesses. The suit was filed Thursday in Santa Fe against Universal Studios, which released the film.

The movie follows the drug- and alcohol-fueled hijinks of teenagers on the last day of school in May 1976. The men said the negative characterizations in the film have made their lives miserable and caused their neighbors to think poorly of them.

``We had fun in high school, but there is nothing true about that movie. Yet, I am having to deal with it all the time,'' said Floyd, who works at a car dealership in Huntsville, Texas, where the men went to high school.

Ernest Freeman, one of the plaintiffs' attorneys, said Slater has also had problems because people make assumptions that he takes illegal drugs.

Slater runs a construction and remodeling company and Wooderson works in the technology sector. Both men also still live in Huntsville.

Linklater's agent did not immediately return a message Saturday seeking comment.

The suit was filed in New Mexico because it has a longer statute of limitations than other states for claims of defamation and false light, attorneys said.

I guess their blue-collar jobs don't pay enough anymore. Losers.

Gee, if there was nothing true about the movie, then they shouldn't be worried. And it certainly took them a long time to get upset.

Of course, I may have been 'dazed and confused' in high school also (admitting nothing, of course), and I'm not so sure I would like anyone to remind of some of the events of those days.

  3. High school sounds like a nightmare in the US of A!

Secondary school in the UK was excellent for me (and just about everyone else).

    Hello,

Nah.. It wasn't that bad for me. Though I never had any "school spirit". I did have a close group of friends with similar tastes. I wasn't exactly athletic so that wasn't a path for me.

It all depends on how you handle it.

High school here can be a nightmare, or it can be the highlight of your teenage years. I guess it all depends on when you "peak". Some people reach the highest heights they will ever achieve while in high school, and become the envy of everyone else. High school is a ball for them.

Others take a little longer to bloom. They get bullied, teased over their size, strike out with the girls, etc. But they end up marrying a goddess, being the envied guy's supervisor, doctor or lawyer ...paying more in taxes every year than the envied guy makes in his job selling carpet remnants or pumping gas, who is driving that same 1968 Charger

One of the few benefits of class reunions

Suggested song that's spot-on for this post: Billy Joel's "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant", from his Stranger album

that movie was so exactly like what was my high school years it was scary ..

if those idiots had never done a lawsuit --no one would have ever know they were modeled for the movie .

quite the story of Milla Jovovich who was in that movie ..

she and Shawn Andrews (Kevin Pickford) eloped to Las Vegas and got married. However, Jovovich was only 16 at the time and her mother had the marriage annulled.

This movie was only couple of years after she stared in return to blue lagoon where she was reported to be fairly "active" at age 14 ..

next movie she did after dazed was Fifth element several years later.

I also want to know why they waited from 1993 to now to file the lawsuit. Were they OK with it until their finances started to get strained? :P

They're only 60 miles from here. Maybe I ought to drive up to Santa Fe and slap 'em silly

I've always thought Milla looked a bit like Brooke Shields. Especially when young.
