..from what i have read, i should "capture" from my DV Camcorder as Type 1, correct?
Just to explain, i have "captured" Type 2, edited and am trying to export back to my Camcorder via DV-in, but have no audio. Of course i am looking to remedy this, but don't want to muck about next time.

Canopus have a simple type1 <-> type2 converter that might help you out. The difference between the two is how the audio included, which is why you have the problem you have now. Next time, use Type1 - for this current problem, try canopus

Thanks for that, but it looks like WinDV will do the job for this video.
So I should definitely be using Type 1, then.
I assumed that Type 2 would be newer and therefore the one to use with my new camcorder and software, as 2 follows 1, but hey, logic doesn't always figure in these things! -
Hi tecstar,
Mmmm.... I would've thought that far "capture", edit and then back to DV cam either type would be OK.
I hate to be contradictory (and I'm not saying you're wrong guns1nger), but I've read that Type 2 DV AVI is the one that's more easily / readily accepted by apps. Maybe not so much for editing, but I believe that TMPGEnc spits its dummy out at Type 1 but is fine with Type 2.
But, hey, whatever works for you - that's the main thing.
Sorry if you're still left in confusion. You'll find it's quite common in this game...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.
Carpe diem.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room. -
Type 1/2 only has to do with the details of the AVI file that's written on your computer from the DV stream from your camera. That can matter as far as your editing program is concerned- but shouldn't have anything to do with writing it back to tape.

From what i have read and think I understood;
The type 2 has a separate audio stream, which has to be injected into the video stream before outputting to the DV camera, so i assume if your s/w does not do this, you will only get video out. Type 2 is more compatible with older software/hardware.
So I guess providing all your s/w and h/w is OK, Type 1 is the one to use,
the only real benefit (if I am correct) being that Type 1 footage can end up being smaller file sizes.
