  1. I have read and searched through countless guides to convert avi files downloaded from shadowrealm into dvd format. I tried using winavi and converting that way then burning with Nero. However when I insert the dvd in the player it wont play it and in a ps2 it says invalid format.
All of the files have the following information using avicodec:

    File : 495 MB (495 MB), duration: 1:34:45, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 36 %

    Video : 409 MB, 603 Kbps, 24.0 fps, 480*212 (2.21:1), MP43 = MS MPEG4 V3, Supported

    Audio : 86 MB, 128 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

    What can I do?
I am using a I/O Magic 12x dvd writer with memorex dvd+r disks..I know the disks will play in my dvd player from past experience.
Please help me out if any of you can!

  3. You'll have to convert the AVI to MPEG2 using a program like TMPGenc. Then author and burn the MPEG2 using a prog like TMPGenc DVD Author or DVDLab.
This process has been covered extensively in guides...

    ie:

  5. Yeah, I would check your output settings. You should have a couple folders, VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS and a bunch of .vob and .ifo files in your VIDEO_TS folder. If you want to try another encoder I would recommend TMPGENC or The Film Machine. Then use GUI for DVD Author to author your dvd. Then make a data dvd in Nero and drop the outputted VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders from GUI for DVD Author, and you got it!

  6. trickyman...when i do that...tmpgenc crashes...it locks up.I have tried the download again and restarted it again...but it just crashes.

Nero smartstart is what came with my dvd writer....nero express 6 boots up to nero smartstart..

Is there any problem with loading a 24.00 fps avi file in winavi?
Should I use winavi setup as ntsc or pal?
If it starts as a 24fps file what will converting to ntsc or pal do to it?

Just use winavi then burn with nero smartstart version 6 or is there something better? I am using win98SE by the way

Download AVIcodec and verify that you have all the correct codecs installed for that file

  8. If it starts as a 24fps file what will converting to ntsc or pal do to it?
It should do it automatically. If you want to make sure open the output file from WinAvi in DVD Patcher and see. If you want it NTSC, DVD Patcher will change it for you without rerendering your mpeg!
As far as TMPGENC, that sounds like a codec problem. You could try another encoding program, like BBMPEG, to make sure.

  9. I now have no trouble making a dvd from an avi file. I have solved that dillemma with everyone's help from here. thanks again!

However I have dvd files created with winavi that I want to join to put 2 movies on one dvd. The trouble I have is that the files that winavi converts to is NOT the same files as a dvd rip would be. So with tmpegnc dvd author or reauthoring with dvd shrink I cant open the files because they are NOT true dvd ripped files.

    Any suggestions??
