  1. Has anyone tried to interrupt TMPGEnc's encoding process?
When you click on STOP, a window pops up for confirmation. Does it stop working at that point, or only when you OK on it? If you click NO to resume encoding after a while, does it harm the encoding (e.g. glitches in video or audio) at that particular point?

I am asking this for obvious reasons: I start encoding in the morning and leave the computer. But in the evening, before it finishes, I would use the computer and don't want to worry about the CPU usage. Then, before going to bed, I would resume the encoding...

    Thanks for you input.

I never come across "pausing" (which in effect you are doing) TMPGEnc causing any noticeable harm.

  3. Thanks, aldus4. I would not expect it either, but I hoped someone has related experience...

  4. Definitively: it does not harm the mpeg output if you click Stop and then choose to let encoding continue.

The encoding process itself is unaffected until you actually interrupt it. You can also use your computer for any intensive processing while TMPGEnc is running and it shouldn't affect the quality of its encoding.

Even when you DO interrupt, there's a pause while the encoding thread finishes what it was doing--this ensures the mpeg file will be coherent, even though incomplete.

  5. tacosalad,

    Thanks for your input.
I watched DVD while encoding and WinDVD froze twice already. Therefore, I'd prefer pausing TMPGEnc for that 2-hour period.

Otherwise, I use my computer for everything else while TMPGEnc is running.

Also, I know about the interrupting creating a complete mpg file. However, I prefer not dealing with joining mpg files after encoding...
