  4. Digigami Mpressionist.X ($1000) can analyze MPEG and report peaks in bitrate and quantization as well as many other details. A cheaper alternative is Bitrate Viewer ($0 or $30) which runs OK in Virtual PC. It would be nice to have a cheaper Mac OS X native application. Are there any UNIX tools for this?

  5. an app like bit rate viewer like the one from the creator of dvd2one is what i'm looking for and i use it with vpc but it's always annoying to start vpc to get the info i want and the app doesn't always work. that's because of a bug within vpc i think anyway, now you know excactly what i'm looking for

vidmarc - You rarely post so I guess somehow you don't know, but digging up old threads like this is a great way to NOT get the kind of help you want. Next time just make a new thread.

You've hit on the problem with Macs - there's just one or two programs for anything and if you don't like it, you're out of options.
