  1. Im looking for a full program that lets me convert wmv files to mpg files so that I can burn them onto a dvd, but I can't find anything that works.

    TMPGenc reads WMV files, providing you have the 'DirectShow Multimedia File Reader' enabled in the 'Environmental setting' -> 'VFAPI plug-in' options.

    If you want to go the free route use Stoik Video Converter to convert your wmv to avi (I would recommend using the XviD Codec for this). Then import your avi into either BBMPEG or The Film Machine and render to mpeg 2. This is all free software that hopefully will work for you. As far as authoring, I would recommend GUI for DVD Author, also free!
