  1. My IEEE 1394 firewire happily recognises my removable hard drives every time. But when I plug in a Sony SDR-15 DVCAM, or Canon MV530i camcorder, I do not get "New hardware Detected", and forcing a scan for new hardware does not recognise the DV devices either.

I've tried re-installing the VIA Technologies SBP2 IEEE 1394 drivers... and only my removable drive was re-recognised.

Some web sites suggested I remove the DVCAM.INF and DVCAM.SYS files from my Windows drivers, but they do not exist.

I have installed no software or drivers for the DV devices, as I believe non are required.

I'm running MS Windows XP with SP2 installed.

    Suggestions appreciated.

  2. Problem solved. It was a faulty cable, dammit.

Now when I plug into the PC, I get New Hardware Detected on the task bar, followed by some more information about the type of device, followed by the name of the device.

After which, a pop-up menu appears asking if I want to Capture video. Alternatively, I can choose to capture video with MS Movie Maker, or WinDV, without any problem.
