  1. There are some topics that mention the stargate dvds from months ago, but none of them really helped me out, so ill try a new topic.

I just got Stargate Sg-1 Season 1 box set - 5 dvd discs.

I also recently got a dvd burner -still trying to figure this whole thing out.

I cant seem to make a sucessful back-up copy of these episodes! I have made about 5 coasters of dvd-rs.

I have been using DVD SHRINK 3.2.

Disc 1 copied fine - only 3 episodes on it. The others have about 5 episodes each and a pointless featurette.

The last few episodes have major erorrs - skipping, bad quality, and then just stopping. The special features dont work at all. It is unbearable to watch the last 2 episodes on my copies.

Why is this? It seems to have encoded everything correctly - i click on the VOB files on my comp and everything is working fine.

What should I do? Also, not matter what I try, it does not give each episode its own file - it is combined with other episodes, etc.

I just tried DVD SHRINK again this evening to try to burn disc 3 w/ deep analysis- took about 2 1/2 hours to do deep analysis and encode. Then it displayed an error message saying "Sorry, couldnt burn (for whatever reason), but files were encoded"

So now I have these files encoded, each episode does not have its own file, and i dont know what to do wtih them. And all the back-ups i have tried have errors.

    Any suggestions?

Look at the files that DVD Shrink has left for you, and you should have a set of VOBs, some ifos and some bups. Open NERO and choose DVD Video as the type of disk. Drag all the files into the video_TS directory, and burn away.

Quality issues mat due to too much compression without using deep analysis and AEC. IMO these should always be used if any transcoding required.

Skipping could be media related. What brand of disk are using ? Have you check it off against the DVD Media List (to your left) to see how others have faired with it ?

Finally, you might consider reauthoring using Shrink and putting only 2 or 3 episodes to a disk. It takes more disks, but you don't have to compress as much.

Some of the SG1 master discs had errors. As soon as you transcode, they're shot. This seems to vary a bit.

That said, most of them are 6GB or so, and DVD Shrink with DA works quite well.

  4. its weird - when i use dvd shrink, it usually burns via nero fine.

but when i go to nero and put all the files there it says it cant make it? that is what it says. It doesnt like the file formats or something. Weird. Is there a way to burn it with alcohol 120% or some other program? I tried dvd clone 2, and that doesnt like me very much. (made 2 coasters for me trying to burn it)

I'm using no-name dvds actually, bought from a computer show or something. They are all white and nothing written on them at all.

I'll see if putting diff episodes on diff discs will work this weekend

When I reauthor, will I still have the menus though?

Have you try other media? (better one 8) )

    No.

  6. i think it is the discs that i am using. Every movie, every episode i try to back up - the last episode or last 15-30 minutes is cut off.

I think that it was encoded to fit on a 4.7 GB disc and for whatever reason, the DVD-Rs that I have are only like 4.5 GB ish, if that is possible.

I am using the re-authoring and putting 2-3 episodes on 1 disc and making sure that it is under 4.5 GB space - and that is working.

Sounds like media problems to me, I backed up seasons 1-6 with DVDShrink and Nero with no trouble other than marginal quality.
