    Hi...

I have a dual (dvd player/VHS recorder combo) and am wanting to copy a DVD to VHS. I know I can't just put the DVD on "play" and the VCR to "record" as that doesn't work.

Is there software that will convert this... or can I just hook up another VCR to my new Combo unit? If so, how is the hookup accomplished...

    THanks...

I won't ask why you want to - that's your business.

You need to have a TBC or a "stabilizer" - something that will remove macrovision protection or the unit won't let you copy from one to the other when it involves a MV-protected tape or DVD.

That requires an external VCR and a TBC or stabilizer. Chances are it doesn't give you separate outputs for the DVD player and VCR, so you'll need to either play it on the combo unit's DVD player, feed through a TBC, and record on another VCR ....or you need to play it on another DVD player and use the line in on the combo unit to record.

If the combo unit lets you play a DVD while recording a VHS tape at the same time (I doubt it) using the line inputs, you could hust insert a TBC between the two.

Either way you will need a TBC. You can use a stabilizer, clarifier, or whatever euphemism that particular vendor is using that week for a macrovision remover ...but remember that it will degrade your video because it's a filter. A TBC is a whole different animal, but it's more expensive

WEll how do you do this if the dvd is not macrovision protected. I have a friend who made an animation and burned it to dvd. He wants to copy it to vhs to use for job applications, since some companies prefer demos in vhs. I played it back in my dvd player, with outputs to my receiver. The receiver output the signal to the vcr but nothing was recorded...?

  4. Use DVDDecrypter to see if the DVD has copy-protection.
If not then simply connect the DVD output to the VCR input with RCA cables.
If it does then use DVDDecrypter to rip and use your video and audio out on your PC to record to a VCR.

Get a camcorder and videotape your computer or TV
while the DVD is playing. Then record that with the VCR.
    Guaranteed Macrovision removal !
