    I was just wondering if you could capture audio + video from a standalone DVD player to a capture card on my computer.

    big_Jit,

    In short, YES and I use my WinTV PVR USB for my dvd captures.
    * has hardware MPEG1/2 (forget mpeg1) (mpeg2 better results)
    * captures of dvd movies is great - just burn to cd (minus a few steps)

    yes you can but for the same price as a capture card you can get a dvdrom (16x sony dvdrom $60us here localy). I have both a dvdrom and a wintv pvr pci and the quality is far superior from the dvdrom method. But the capture from the pvr is a hella quicker.
