  1. Hello,

I'm trying to make an xmas video and want to include some
old pics that will have to be scanned. My question is, what is
the best setting to use to scan with so they work with DVD.
What resolution do I use when scanning, and do they need
be a certain size to work with DVD video. I use video studio
8 at this time. I would also like to thank everyone on this
board for all the help I've have had so far by just spending
an hour or so every night reading, you people are great.

    Thanks
    Zen

if you want them to be full screen, scanning them at 150-200 dpi should give you enough detail for your project.

if you want to do a lot of panning, zooming and "Ken Burns" style stuff, scanning at a higher resolution is important so you don't lose detail.

I did a project recently where I only had photos to work with, and I did a lot of panning and zooming. I scanned all the photos at 600dpi and it worked quite well - I was able to zoom in quite severely and not pixellate or lose detail.

  3. Thank you for the info housepig. If I scan a 4x6 pic
will it fill the whole screen like the dvd or does is it
    need to be resized?

    Thanks

    well, 720 dpi / 6" wide = 120 dpi minimum.

I seem to remember an aspect ratio issue when scanned pics are authored to DVD. Try this test: create a perfect circle (about 4 to 6 inches across) in a paint program, and print it.

Scan it and author it to an RW DVD, then look at it on a TV and see if it's still a perfect circle.
